Frequently Asked Questions

If you or someone else is experiencing a medical emergency, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or loss of consciousness, call 911 immediately.

Once you call 911, the dispatcher will send an ambulance and other emergency responders to your location. The ambulance crew will assess the patient’s condition and provide necessary medical care during transport.

All patients in need of emergency medical services will receive care and transport, regardless of their insurance status. However, patients are responsible for the cost of their ambulance services, which may have otherwise been covered by insurance.

Ambulance transport costs vary depending on factors such as distance traveled, level of care provided, and insurance coverage.

In most cases, the ambulance crew will transport patients to the nearest appropriate hospital for their medical condition. However, patients may request to be taken to a specific hospital if it is within reasonable distance and can provide necessary medical care.

Only in very rare instances will anyone be allowed to ride in the ambulance with the patient.

Some ambulance service providers offer non-emergency medical transport, such as wheelchair or stretcher transportation, for patients who require assistance but do not need emergency medical care.

Please contact Central Huron Ambulance Service at (989) 269-7572 to discuss optional non emergent or scheduled transports.

If possible, gather important medical information and documents, such as a list of medications, allergies, and medical history, to provide to the ambulance crew. Be prepared to bring any specialty medical equipment that you may require.

If your medical condition improves and you no longer require emergency transport, notify 911 as soon as possible to advise them that you no longer need the EMS services. They will notify the responding crew.

Contact your local ambulance service provider or healthcare provider to request non-emergency medical transportation or for more information about their services.
